McQuay building for sale as first Oak Grove house rises

October 24, 2012

The first house in the newest subdivision in Rehoboth Beach is under construction.

Oak Grove at the Beach, just off the circle at the entrance to Rehoboth, is Rehoboth’s first major subdivision in more than 30 years.

Paul and Cindy Lovett, co-owners of the property, are building the house, which Cindy Lovett said was originally intended as a spec home.

“It is currently projected to be completed in February or March.  It is not specifically a ‘model’ home, but we would show it to anyone interested in building in Oak Grove at the Beach,” Cindy Lovett said.

She said Oak Grove at the Beach is Rehoboth’s first green community, with pervious walkways and parking and the largest residential rain garden in the area.

The Lovetts are also selling the McQuays Market building; Kingston Gourmet market occupies the front, with an apartment and office in the back.  Lovett said the building has been for sale since April, but that Kingston Gourmet would be unaffected by a sale.

“We have been the proud owners of the McQuay building now for 15 years.  We decided for a variety of reasons that we should move into the new house, putting the McQuay store building on the market.  However, if someone were interested in the new home on Canal Street, we would be happy to talk to them,” she said.

The Lovett family has owned the Oak Grove property since the 1950s. Formerly Oak Grove Motor Court, it was subdivided in March 2011 into 15 buildable lots for single-family homes and renamed Oak Grove at the Beach. Lovett said no lots have yet been sold.
