Local Svaroopa Yoga teacher Sandy Gilbert recently completed additional meditation teacher training under the leadership of Swami Nirmalananda Saraswati at Svaroopa Vidya Ashram. These trainings include meditation group leader which allows Gilbert to host meditation satsangs and a course in how to teach short meditations to groups. She continues to offer a three-week introductory meditation series.
Sandy (Mati) Gilbert has been teaching Svaroopa Yoga at Rehoboth Beach Yoga for over 10 years and is a Certified Svaroopa Yoga Teacher with over 700 hours of training. She has continued yoga teacher training with Svaroopa Yoga originator Swami Nirmalananda (formerly Rama Berch) during this time.
Yoga (including poses and breathing) benefits the body and begins to allow the mind to quiet. Meditation takes these benefits even further. Svaroopa Vidya Meditation is based on the principles of yoga. One does not meditate on the mind or breath, but on oneself. This opens the doorway to finding one’s own inner divinity.
Gilbert offers a shorter introductory meditation (30 minutes to an hour) to groups of friends, family, coworkers, and other social/business activities. This short meditation will whet the appetite to learn more about Svaroopa Vidya Meditation (a yogic meditation).
Gilbert will be teaching a three-week series titled Roadmap to Svaroopa Vidya Meditation. The dates are Saturday, April 16, 23, and 30 from 3 to 5 p.m. This series is for those who are new to meditation, those out of practice, and those who have tried others styles in the past.
Gilbert also holds a meditation satsang the third Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. The Sanskrit word “satsang” means “in the company of truth.” Meditation satsangs continue the old tradition of sharing the depth and breadth of yoga’s timeless teachings.
