A microbrewery is being proposed for Savannah Road in Lewes, but first the property must be annexed into the city.

Located at 1145 Savannah Road, the parcel sits at the edge of town where the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail crosses Savannah Road, directly across from Auto Gallery.

Christine Jones, owner and vice president of Jones Enterprise Brewing LLC and Lewes Brewing Company LLC, submitted the annexation application to city officials in December.

“Our intention for the property is to renovate, license and operate a microbrewery under the operating name of Lewes Brewing Company LLC,” Jones wrote in a letter to Mayor Ted Becker.

The property is currently zoned AR-1 in Sussex County, and would have to be assigned to a zone if annexation into Lewes is approved. At its Jan. 11 meeting, mayor and city council created an annexation committee comprising all members of city council except Becker to analyze zoning, financial considerations, administration and utilities. Each member of the committee is assigned one issue, and the group will convene at a later time to go over its findings.
