Milton Arts Guild unveils new print materials

Delaware Tech Visual Communications students create new design
May 28, 2022

Milton Arts Guild recently unveiled a new look and feel for its printed materials that complements the organization’s growth in the past year.

The new design was created by graduating students in the Applied Practice Group class in Delaware Technical Community College’s Visual Communications Department.

Under the direction of Patti Bishop, department chair, and with input from Milton Arts Guild, the Applied Practice Group students acted as designers by synthesizing the guild’s mission, ethos and future plans into a crisp new look that visually communicates the organization’s evolving identity.

“This has been a year of major growth for Milton Arts Guild,” said Sue Dutton, board of directors president. “Not only did we move to a highly trafficked location in downtown Milton, but we have also added more than 50 new members, doubled the number of classes we offer to the community and added new special events to our calendar.”

In December, Milton Arts Guild moved to a new gallery space at 107 Federal St., where it hosts nine exhibits a year as well as periodic special pop-up shows. The guild also offers its members and the community at least 25 classes a year in a variety of art media. Its holiday market, spring fling, summer celebration and art walk each celebrate a new season and encourage the public to join in the love of art.

“We make community engagement part of our mission,” Dutton said. “What better way to further engage with community organizations than to work with young people at our premier community college? We couldn’t be more impressed with the Delaware Tech students under the leadership of Patti Bishop. They were able to capture our essence very quickly in their designs by not only listening to us, but by really hearing us. They showed great patience, good humor, professional-level poise and stunning results.”

The Delaware Tech Visual Communications Department consists of three majors: Ad Design, Photo Imaging and Multimedia.  Students develop a strong sense of concept development in addition to communication, collaboration, research, problem-solving and presentation skills using the Adobe Creative Suite. The programs train creative people to become graphic designers, photographers and web designers to benefit growing businesses.

Companies and organizations wishing to obtain more information about working with Delaware Tech’s Visual Communications Department should contact Patti Bishop at patti.bishop@dtcc.edu.

“Milton Arts Guild was one of the organizations chosen for the students to work with this semester,” said Bishop. “The Applied Practice course allows companies to work with interns off-site on a contractual/semester basis, giving them real-world freelance experience with an instructor's guidance. It is a fantastic experience for the students. They learn how to interview and present to the client in a professional way while still having to meet deadlines, work in a team and solve the problem for the client.  It is as real-world as it gets.”

Milton Arts Guild will begin rolling out its new visual look in the coming weeks.
