I just finished reading a story in the Cape Gazette titled, “Coalition looks to boost ecotourism in northern Sussex County.” The City of Milford is partnering with a public-private coalition to protect and promote the Mispillion and Cedar Creek rivers, which are not as important, in my opinion, as the Broadkill River.
The Broadkill River is an important part of the history of the Town of Milton. Instead of utilizing the history and beauty of the river and surrounding area, the planning and zoning board thought putting a 140-foot cell tower on beautiful land owned by the town at the head of the Broadkill River was a good idea.
This decision devaluated the town’s property and all the surrounding properties. Instead of using this property to promote tourism and bring people into the downtown, this decision will discourage businesses from coming here. If the town would promote this property in a more positive manner, nature lovers would visit the town and river.
The board had other options about where this tower could be located, but it chose to ignore opposition from citizens and voted to proceed to ruin the value of all the properties on the Broadkill River.
