To assist with snow removal, Milton Police Department is alerting citizens about snow routes around town and on-street parking restrictions as snow is being cleared.
Snow routes are marked with signs throughout town, and street parking on roads controlled by Delaware Department of Transportation – such as Atlantic, Federal, Union, Mulberry and Front streets, and Route 16 – is prohibited.
In addition, on-street parking on both sides of the following streets is prohibited during the storm: Atlantic Avenue, Bay Avenue, Behringer Avenue, Chandler Street, Chestnut Street, Lavinia Street, Magnolia Street and Willow Street. Parking during the storm is also prohibited on the north sides of Broad Street and Mill Street.
Any vehicle that remains parked on a declared emergency route will be subject to fines and penalties.
Citizens are encouraged not to park on the streets, or to move their cars to the driveway once the snow starts falling to keep space clear for snowplows. Snow removal on DelDOT-controlled streets will be run by the state, with town roads plowed by the town maintenance department. Primary roads in and out of town will be cleared first, followed by secondary streets, then streets within subdivisions. Snow and ice removal on privately owned streets is the responsibility of the owner.
As for sidewalks, the town will clear ice and snow from municipally owned sidewalks after the streets are passable. Residents clearing snow from the sidewalk should do so within 24 hours after the snow stops and should not throw snow or ice into the streets. Snow should be cleared to the width of the sidewalk.
