Minds Over Matter Initiative presents professional development program

October 5, 2015

Members of Minds Over Matter Initiative, a Lewes-based organization, traveled to May B. Leasure Elementary School in Newark Aug. 26 to deliver a professional development presentation to teachers on the practice and benefits of mindfulness.

Aiming to empower individuals through mindfulness education, the inservice presentation at the Christina School District elementary school focused on how teachers can incorporate mindfulness into their lives. The presentation included information on what mindfulness is, the research behind it and how to practice mindfulness in everyday situations.

“I have been a teacher for 10 years now, and have never been to a [professional development presentation] that really focused on the well-being of teachers,” says Kimberly Heeman, a special educator at Leasure elementary. “I really enjoyed it and would like to put some of the things I learned into practice."

Minds Over Matter Initiative is dedicated to providing people with a tool to help achieve and maintain focus, inner calm and resilience. The practice of mindfulness is free, easily accessible and promotes an appreciation for and grounding in the moment.
