Cape senior one of nation’s 65 best kickers/punters after wowing at camps

Few things are more chaotic than the recruiting process, especially with the new transfer portal, but Cape senior Navin Duffy now has a leg up on the competition.

“Navin was one of a handful of punters invited to our national showcase in Austin [Texas],” said coach Brent Grablachoff of the Kicking World National Showcase. “He had a pretty good weekend at the event, as well as earlier this season at one of our regular-season camps where he earned the invitation.”

Duffy earned his invite by wowing coaches while he competed against 1,300 high school kickers who came from 32 other states. He was the only punter from the First State, and his demeanor was first-rate.

“Navin has a can-do, upbeat attitude and possesses hustle,” Grablachoff said. “He is very coachable and respectful. I heard lots of ‘yes, sirs’ from him.”

The senior was one of 65 participants who accepted their invite to attend the showcase in Austin, Texas, Dec. 6-7.

“It was a blessing from God and was an exciting time for me to be in a different environment and doing what I love best, kicking the ball,” Duffy said.

Duffy, who was named to the All-District 3A team as a linebacker and second-team all-state as a punter this fall, finished 28th overall and caught the attention of scouts.

“He has the potential to be a collegiate-level punter with just a little more consistency,” Grablachoff said. “It was a pleasure having him at our camps this season.”
