Nedra Faye Lester, retired from retail sales
Nedra Faye Lester, 92, of Lewes, and formerly of Middletown, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 18, 2015.
A native Delawarean, Nedra was raised in Port Penn, and was the daughter of the late Charles K. Hickman and Viola (Bendler) Hickman. She was a 1941 graduate of Delaware City High School. She lived all her life in the Port Penn and Middletown area until moving to her son’s home in Lewes in 2012.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Penn, Port Penn Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, the Ever Faithful Class of Port Penn and the Port Penn Helping Hand Society. She made her career in retail sales, retiring as store manager for Budget Uniform in the Christiana Mall. She was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother who valued her time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Nedra was preceded in death by her first husband, James K. Murphy Sr.; and her second husband Richard H. Lester Sr. She is survived by her son, James K. Murphy Jr. and wife, June, of Lewes; three stepsons, Richard “Dick” H. Lester,Jr. (Barbara) of Wyoming, Jaymes “Jay” B. Lester (Deborah) of Middletown, and Gordon B. Lester (Lou Ann) of Bear; two grandsons, James K. Murphy III (Kati) and Kevin M. Murphy; seven stepgrandsons, Todd Lester (Kristi), Christopher Lester (Meghan), Paul Lester (Jacqui), Ryan Lester (Kelly), Kyle Lester (Meghan), Scott Lester and Craig Lester.
The family wishes to offer their sincere thanks to the staff of Brandywine Senior Living of Rehoboth Beach, the Tunnell Cancer Center staff, and the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice.
A graveside committal service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 30, at the Gracelawn Memorial Cemetery, 2220 North DuPont Hwy., New Castle. A celebration of life will follow at 1 p.m., at The ChesDel Restaurant, 2120 DuPont Parkway, Middletown.
