Stockley Materials gets go-ahead for project
At its April 11 meeting, Sussex County Council voted 5-0 for the second time to grant a conditional use of land in an AR-1, agricultural-residential, zone to Stockley Materials LLC for a commercial landscaping material sales and storage facility on 1.65 acres at 32402 Lewes-Georgetown Highway in Belltown.

While the original conditional-use application had been approved in February 2015, a more detailed title search and survey revealed a slight discrepancy in the shape and size of the property, said Mark Davidson, an engineer with Pennoni Associates. "It had to come back because it was a legal description that did not match," said Sussex County attorney J. Everette Moore.

Davidson said a buffer will be provided between the business and houses on the east side that will include landscaping and a fence. Access to the parcel will be off Route 9. Among the conditions imposed by planning and zoning commissioners, the hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday; no material can be received before 8 a.m.; and the facility must be fenced and gated. The company has already started site work and will eventually relocate its existing business from its current location about one-half mile west of the new site. The county's planning and zoning commission had recommended approval of the application.
