Mayor Stan Mills will chair the task force. Citizen members of the task force have not yet been determined, and the first meeting has not been scheduled.
Shutdown cancels Prime Hook events
Due to the prolonged shutdown of the federal government, events at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge near Milton have been canceled.
Cheryl Duford, Friends of Prime Hook NWR board member, said the guided bird walk scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1, the wandering refuge ambassador set for Saturday, Nov. 15, and the walkabout slated for Sunday, Nov. 16, are all canceled.
Also, the refuge visitor center on Turkle Pond Road remains closed. A sign in the window says, “During this lapse in appropriations, national wildlife refuges will remain as accessible as possible. We are doing our best to take care of your refuges at this time, but some amenities and services may not be available.” The refuge gate remains open, however, and visitors may continue to explore the area on their own.
