Sussex council meeting on Feb. 27

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Johnson Road to close Feb. 23

Johnson Road between Anderson Corner Road and Simpler Branch Road near Georgetown will be closed Friday, Feb. 23, through Friday, March 1, for a crossroad pipe installation.

Detour: Motorists traveling east on Johnson Road will turn left on Anderson Corner Road, then right on Route 5, then back to Johnson Road. Motorists traveling west on Johnson Road will continue on Route 5, then left on Anderson Corner Road, then back to Johnson Road.

Lewes BPW sets meeting Feb. 28

The Lewes Board of Public works will hold its monthly meeting at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28, at city hall.

The agenda includes discussion on the long-range plan for the wastewater treatment plant.

Rehoboth tree meeting canceled

The Rehoboth Beach Parks and Shade Tree Commission meeting set for Monday, Feb. 26, has been canceled due to a lack of agenda items, according to a notice from the city. For more information, contact the city at 302-227-6181 or information@cityofrehoboth.com.

Rehoboth BoA to hear two variance requests 

The Rehoboth Beach Board of Adjustment will meet at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 26, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for two hearings. The first is for the property at 347 Hickman St., where the owners are appealing a decision of the building inspector related to the natural area and also seeking a side-yard variance to allow the continued existence of an unpermitted patio within the required side-yard setback. The second hearing is for the property at 204 Philadelphia St., where the owners are appealing a decision of the building inspector related to demolition and removal, or alternatively, seeking variances from those code sections.

Lewes art group to meet Feb. 28

The Lewes Public Art Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Rollins Center.

The agenda includes discussion and possible action regarding the schedule for the Paul Daniel art installation at George H.P. Smith Park.

Lewes parks panel cancels  meeting

The Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission meeting set for 6:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 26, has been canceled due to a lack of agenda items. 

The next meeting has not been scheduled.

Lewes bike group to meet Feb. 27

The Lewes Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27, at city hall.

The agenda includes discussion and possible action to to change the meeting schedule from every other month to monthly, and increase the committee membership from five to seven.

Dewey in Bloom initiative approved

Dewey Beach commissioners voted unanimously Feb. 16 to approve a Dewey in Bloom beautification and community engagement initiative as recommended by the town marketing committee. With the approval secured, the group’s next steps involve holding an organizational meeting, researching appropriate planters, consulting with town officials on planter placement, and reaching out to local homeowner associations for participation.
