Lewes council to meet March 11

Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m., Monday, March 11, at city hall.

The agenda includes a presentation and possible action on the Fiscal Year 2025 budget.

Lewes environmental group to meet 

The Lewes Planning Commission’s Environmental Subcommittee will meet at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 11, at city hall.

The agenda includes discussion and possible recommendation on amending the wetland buffer ordinance.

Lewes housing panel to meet March 12

The Lewes Planning Commission’s Housing Subcommittee will meet at 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, at the Rollins Center.

The agenda includes discussion of accessory dwelling units.

Special Rehoboth meeting set March 11

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m., Monday, March 11, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for an executive session to discuss the qualifications of individual candidates for employment as city manager. Commissioners are looking to find a replacement for former City Manager Christian Laurence, who left the position after roughly 10 months on the job.

Panel recommends annexation in Lewes

The Lewes Annexation Committee voted unanimously March 5 to recommend that mayor and council approve annexing three parcels along Savannah Road.

The land, totaling about 12 acres, is owned by Breakwaters Partners LLC.

The committee voted after receiving is final report on the implications to city services, utilities and zoning.

Lewes Mayor and City Council will discuss and possibly take action on the recommendation during their meeting at 5:30 p.m., Monday, March 11, at City Hall.

Section of Patriots Way to close March 11

The Delaware Department of Transportation announced the permanent closure of Patriots Way between Fox Run Road and Route 113 north of Millsboro starting Monday, March 11, for construction of a grade-separated intersection as part of the Millsboro bypass project.

Sussex meeting at 1 p.m. March 12

Sussex County Council will meet at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda are two area public hearings for a conditional-use application filed by Monish Malhotra for vehicle storage, maintenance and repairs at 14400 Collins St. near Milton, and for a conditional use for an auto repair shop at 25709 Whispering Wind Lane near Long Neck.

RBP tryouts to begin March 9

The Rehoboth Beach Patrol has announced its tryout dates for the 2024 season. The first is 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 9, at Sussex Academy High School, 21150 Airport Road, Georgetown. The second is at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 16, at Sussex YMCA, 20080 Church St., Rehoboth Beach. The third tryout is at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 13, at Lake Forest High School, 5407 Killens Pond Road, Felton.

Starting pay for ocean rescue personnel is $17.50/hour with an incentive bonus of up to $1,000.

Applicants will be required to take a test that includes a 1-mile run, push-ups, sit-ups, a 550-yard swim, a 100-yard sprint swim, a 25-yard underwater swim and two types of pool rescues. There are time completion requirements. Applicants can be 15 at the time of the tryout, but they must be 16 on or before the Memorial Day weekend, and certified in CPR and first aid.
