Coastal Delaware Prime Timers meet June 14

A local chapter of Prime Timers, a social group for single and coupled gay men, is forming in Southern Delaware. Its first gathering will be a happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 14,  at Shrimpy’s Bar and Grill in the Midway Shopping Center on Coastal Highway north of Rehoboth Beach.

The fun and welcoming member-driven international social organization has 75 local chapters and more than 10,000 members. Members will select and make plans for local events of their choice such as parties, lunches, dinners, day trips and more. Coastal Delaware Prime Timer events will always be a great place to get together with old friends and make new ones.

Dewey postpones board of adjustment

The Dewey Beach Board of Adjustment meeting scheduled for Monday, June 13, was postponed. The new date will be announced when it is set. Go to townofdeweybeach.com.

Sussex P&Z acts on site plans

At its June 9 meeting, Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission approved several site plans.

The final plan for Stillwaters, Phase 11, of the Peninsula on Indian River Bay in Long Neck was approved for 79 additional single-family condominium units.

Also approved were the preliminary plan for a Wyoming Millwork expansion project at its Milton facility along Route 30 to include two 5,000-square-foot buildings and three 9,600-square-foot lumber warehouses for a total of 38,800 square feet of floor space, and the preliminary plan for a Mountaire Farms water treatment plant on a 3.5-acre parcel within the current facility on both sides of Route 24 near Millsboro.

The Mountaire plan includes four, 5,000-gallon water storage tanks, a backwash recovery system, filter, pumping station and generator.

The final site plans for both Wyoming Millwork and Mountaire Farms will be reviewed and approved by planning and zoning staff upon receipt of all agency approvals.

Milton Special Review Committee to meet

The Milton Special Review Committee will meet at 4 p.m., Thursday, June 16, at Milton library to resume discussion of the proposed annexation of 50 acres on Harbeson Road that would be developed into a 163-unit residential community known as Scarlet Oaks.

The committee will discuss the advantages, disadvantages and cost benefits of the annexation with the goal of formulating an advisory report to town council. The meeting is available via teleconference at 425-436-6360 using passcode 500943 or livestream at join.freeconferencecall.com/tquass.

Lewes Planning Commission to meet

The Lewes Planning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, at the Rollins Center and via Zoom.

The meeting will begin with election of committee officers, followed by an update on the 5-year review of the comprehensive plan.

A public hearing may be scheduled on the proposed Roosevelt Landing major subdivision at 660 Pilottown Road, the former site of Lewes Dairy.

Committee members will discuss and possibly make recommendations to mayor and city council about the Lands of Galasso minor subdivision at 111 New Road.

Lewes to discuss short-term rentals

The Lewes short-term rental ad hoc committee will hold its first meeting at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, at city hall and online. Members will meet with a consultant and talk about strategies for managing short-term rentals.

African American Heritage Commission to meet June 16

The Lewes African American Heritage Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 16, at city hall. Updates will be given on the historical markers, oral histories, Johnnie Walker Beach and Savannah Beach, public arts and Juneteenth. Anyone with photographs of Johnnie Walker is asked to contact Secretary Trina Brown-Hicks, page administrator for the Memories of Lewes Facebook group.

Volunteers are also needed for Juneteenth, scheduled for Saturday, June 25. Volunteers would work June 24-25, and be given special event T-shirts, and food from one of the participating food trucks. Heavy lifting will be required.

Environment group to meet in Rehoboth

The Rehoboth Beach Environment Committee will meet at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 16, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for a discussion on the city’s climate action plan, a discussion on the use of gas-powered landscape equipment, a discussion on a non-idling policy and a discussion related to offshore wind farms and their impacts on coastal Delaware. The Rehoboth Beach Streets and Transportation Committee will meet at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 16, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for an update on making Rehoboth Avenue no-left-turn rules year-round and a discussion about safety concerns on Hickman and Munson streets.

Rehoboth city hall not open on Saturdays

Rehoboth Beach City Hall is typically open most Saturdays, June through mid-August. However, the city announced June 9, city hall will remain closed on Saturdays this year.

Lynne Coan, city spokesperson, said the decision to close city hall on Saturdays was made since there will not be a municipal election this year.  Most Saturday customers come to city hall to register to vote, she said.

Dewey commissioners meet June 17

Dewey Beach commissioners will hold their monthly meeting at 3 p.m., Friday, June 17, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Commissioners will possibly vote to approve a resolution to appoint an acting police chief to become effective immediately after the current chief retires, to amend code to prohibit feeding waterfowl, and to approve a proposal submitted by Laura Ashby for a memorial to be constructed at the corner of Bellevue and Bayard avenues.
