Lewes BPW customers can earn $100 for appliance recycling

For a limited time, Efficiency Smart is offering a $100 reward for Lewes Board of Public Works customers who responsibly recycle an eligible appliance.

Lewes BPW customers who schedule a free pickup of their old appliances by Tuesday, Sept. 30, will receive a $100 reward per appliance recycled. With rewards limited to four appliances per household per year, eligible items include working refrigerators, freezers, window air conditioners and dehumidifiers.

In addition to the $100 reward for each unit responsibly recycled, residents will also see savings on their utility bill from no longer running an older appliance.

Efficiency Smart has also tripled the rebate for window air conditioners to coincide with the appliance recycling promotion. Through Sept. 30, residents who purchase an eligible Energy Star-certified window air conditioner can receive a $150 rebate. When combined with the $100 incentive for recycling their old unit, the offer offsets most of the cost of a new, more efficient model.

To schedule free pickup times or learn more about window air conditioner rebates, Lewes BPW customers can call 877-889-3777 or go to efficiencysmart.org/lewes-delaware.

Sussex Realtors advocate with federal legislators

As part of a national effort to ensure policymakers understand the urgent needs facing today’s housing market, six members of the Sussex County Association of Realtors traveled to Washington, D.C., in early June to meet directly with members of Congress. Their mission was to advocate for policies that increase the housing supply, support private property rights and expand access to homeownership.

“These meetings on Capitol Hill were an opportunity for SCAOR leadership to talk directly with lawmakers about the positive impact Realtors have in local communities and the broader economy,” said Bill Davis, SCAOR president. “Real estate represents nearly one-fifth of the United States’ GDP. That’s a voice worth hearing.”

“Homeownership builds generational wealth, but a 4.7 million home shortage threatens middle-class prosperity,” said Stephanie Moody, SCAOR association executive. “The members of Congress we met with were receptive to our ideas and appreciated that Realtors are hardworking entrepreneurs who help make the American dream of homeownership possible.”
