Beebe earns top ranking in hospital social responsibility
Beebe Healthcare has once again earned a top ranking for its commitment to social responsibility, according to a report released by The Lown Institute, an independent think tank that advocates for improvements in America’s healthcare systems.
The institute evaluates hospitals and healthcare systems nationwide on eight distinct metrics within three core categories: Equity, Value and Outcomes. Beebe earned an A in both the Equity and Outcomes categories, with top ratings indicated across the Community Benefit, Inclusivity, Cost Efficiency and Clinical Outcomes metrics. The report also designated Beebe as No. 1 in Delaware for Community Benefit.
“Beebe’s commitment to high-quality care that centers around safety and efficiency in the clinical environment is shining once again with the release of the Lown Institute’s 2025-26 Index Report,” said Paul Sierzenski, MD, MSHQS, CPE, FACEP, senior vice president and chief physician executive at Beebe Healthcare. “Our ranking reflects the commitment made by a team of people who truly collaborate well and who are committed to providing the best possible experience for patients. We are incredibly proud of our team and are grateful for the work they do every day in line with that goal.”
Milton planners eye rental rules
Milton Planning and Zoning Commission will take up the next phase of the town’s two-pronged approach to regulating short-term rentals at its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, at Cannery Village clubhouse.
Milton Town Council took up the issue of short-term rentals after seeing the rise in Airbnb and Vrbo properties, and hearing concerns on the part of both residents and town officials that it might lead to the town becoming inundated with vacation rentals instead of owner-occupied properties.
Council has expressed a desire to get ahead of the issue before it becomes a major problem.
Council first asked planning and zoning to create a licensing structure for short-term rentals, and in June, council passed an ordinance to set that up.
However, council wanted to go further, and at its July 7 meeting, members passed a resolution to ask planning and zoning for an advisory report on regulating short-term rentals through zoning. Council is not asking planners to submit a draft ordinance with the report.
The commission will also continue discussing affordable housing and will hear a request by Mulberry Heights LLC for a one-year extension on the final site-plan approval for Mulberry Heights, a proposed development at 500 Mulberry St.
