Dewey commissioner meeting July 9

Dewey Beach commissioners will meet at 6 p.m., Friday, July 9, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Commissioners may possibly vote to refer to the planning commission applications to rezone a property at 26 Bellevue St. from resort residential to resort business along with proposed ordinances to rezone the parcel and amend the comprehensive map accordingly. Other possible votes include amending the 2022 fiscal year budget to increase the police department liability insurance from $1 million to $3 million, to approve expansion of premises requests for the Aug. 21 Running of the Bull and Oct. 9 Dewey Goes Pink events, and to amend town code regarding police and lifeguard drug and alcohol use and testing. Rehoboth planning commission to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission will hold a virtual meeting at 2 p.m., Friday, July 9.

The agenda calls for a public hearing on the minor subdivision of lots 63, 65 and 67 Lake Ave. The owners would like to turn the three lots into two. The agenda also calls for an update on the comprehensive development plan.

Henlopen Acres to meet July 9

The Henlopen Acres Board of Commissioners will meet at 10 a.m., Friday, July 9, in town hall, 104 Tidewaters.

Cape school board meets July 8

The Cape Henlopen school board will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 8, at H.O. Brittingham Elementary. Members will elect board officers and appoint the executive secretary. Other possible votes include board committee assignments; 2021-22 meeting dates; board policies on homework, grading and administrator local salaries; and interior and exterior finishes for the new middle school.

Sussex council awards nonprofit grants

Sussex County Council awarded the following councilmanic grants during its June 22 meeting: $6,474 to Fort Miles Historical Association for a USS Arizona exhibit at the Fort Miles Museum and $4,600 to Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company for ambulance equipment. Council awarded the following councilmanic grants during its June 29 meeting: $12,913 to Town of Ellendale for park playground renovations; $5,000 to help fund Woodbridge Little League field upgrades; $6,500 to Nanticoke Indian Association Inc. for the 43rd annual Nanticoke Indian Powwow and Cultural Awareness Program; $2,000 to Indian River School District for Indian River Baseball Boosters batting cage renovations; $4,000 to Town of Laurel for town hall renovations; $4,000 to Town of Bridgeville for town hall restoration; $5,000 to Town of Greenwood for playground renovations; and $4,000 to Sussex Montessori School Inc. for repairs and construction costs. The following youth grants were awarded: $6,900 to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Philadelphia, Delaware and Susquehanna Valley to fund wishes for children with critical illnesses; $3,600 to Harry K Foundation for the Halt Child Hunger initiative; and $1,500 to Girls Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council Inc. to include Latino girls in the program.

Johnson appointed to Dewey BoA

Dewey Beach commissioners voted unanimously June 25 to appoint Julie Johnson as chair of the Board of Adjustment for a three-year term.
