Rehoboth Beach election slated Aug. 9
The Rehoboth Beach municpal election will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, in the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, 229 Rehoboth Ave.
Three candidates are running for two seats – Chris Galanty, Jeffrey Goode and Susan Stewart. Sitting Commissioners Edward Chrzanowski and Francis “Bunky” Markert are not running for re-election.
Any qualified elector may request an absentee ballot to vote by filing a request for an absentee ballot form no later than noon, Friday, Aug. 8. Ballots must be received by mail or in person before the polls close on the day of the election. UUSD to meet Aug. 10
The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will hold a service Sunday, Aug. 10, with the topic, “Money and ... Meaning?” The Rev. Heather Rion Starr said, “It’s not about the money, except when sometimes it really is. How do we get more comfortable talking about all the ways that finances do impact our lives? Lewes council sets meeting for Aug. 11
Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 11, at city hall.
The agenda includes discussion and possible action on an extension request from Schell Brothers for the Overlook project at Savannah Road and Henlopen Drive.

Modern pain management session set Aug. 13

The Saltwater Fly Anglers of Delaware invites fly fishermen and women of all ages and skill levels to attend its meeting at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Rolling Meadows Clubhouse, Lewes. Tanger Outlets Rehoboth will host a back-to-school bash from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, at Tanger Seaside Plaza, Rehoboth Beach. Attractions include face painting, music, games, giveaways and a local artisans’ craft fair.
Miracle Angels charity yard sale set Aug. 16
The Miracle Angels of Israel United Methodist Church will host a yard sale fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, at Rabbit's Ferry Community Center, 19112 Robinsonville Road, Lewes. Patrons should bring their own bags to shop bargains from household items to accessories, clothing and shoes in a variety of sizes for adults and children. Cash and carry only. Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle soul music tribute set Aug. 23
A fundraiser show titled A Tribute to the Queens of Soul, Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle, is set for 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Cambria Hotel, 17221 Hood Road, Rehoboth Beach. Featured performer Shawn Allen is a former background singer for Patti LaBelle and member of the Pure Soul group.
Early bird tickets are available until Tuesday, Aug. 12. Proceeds will benefit EGL Entertainment and Arts, a 501c3 nonprofit with the mission of helping local community members in need, particularly children, to participate in music and arts enrichment programs outside of regular school offerings.

Tools for Courageous Conversations signup due Sept. 22
Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will host a Tools for Courageous Conversations session from 12 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28, at 30406 Lewes-Georgetown Highway, Lewes.
Led by two highly experienced facilitators in the field, attendees will learn effective ways to communicate about difficult topics with people they care about, using exercises from the Alternatives to Violence Project and Nonviolent Communications.
Joseph Anastasio, LCSW, is a psychotherapist, trained mediator, and lecturer at Wilmington University. Rick Grier Reynolds is a notable former teacher and history/social science department chair at Wilmington Friends School. He has been recognized for innovative teaching of economics, international relations and peace studies by various regional, national and international organizations.
