NFL playoffs for the Eagles up for grabs
With the Philadelphia Eagles' disappointing loss to the Dallas Cowboys at home this past Sunday night, the Eagles have now lost all control of their own fate. The Eagles' chance of being in the playoffs are all up to wins and losses from other teams. Last Sunday's game could not have started off worse for the Eagles when they lost the opening kickoff to Dallas in such an unbelievable fashion. I don't know what Josh Hoff was thinking. It seemed like he wasn't even paying attention when he approached the ball so slowly that the Cowboys were able to recover it like it was an onside kick. In 20 years of watching football highlights, I've never seen that happen until that game. And I bet there's not a single coach out there that will ever want to see this happen again. The Cowboys dominated the first half and had a 21 - 0 lead before the Eagles seemed to know what had hit them. Philadelphia's quick strike offense did come back to gain the lead 24 - 21 by the middle of the third quarter, but it wasn't good enough. The Cowboys' wide receiver, Dez Bryant, dominated the Eagles' secondary for the rest of the game and garnered three touchdowns on his own.
Because of the Philadelphia loss, I will become a temporary Indianapolis Colts fan this coming Sunday as I will be wishing and hoping that they can beat the Cowboys. This is the last realistic chance for Dallas to lose a game this season, which would open the small possibility for the Eagles to make the playoffs. The Cowboys' last game, which will be against the Washington Redskins, should be an easy win, so I am not counting on that one. Go Colts!
The NHL Hockey season is already going into its second quarter, and the Philadelphia Flyers haven't even shown up yet. The Flyers need to step it up if they are going to be a contender come June. Hopefully the outbreak of mumps that has hit more than a dozen players in the league will be cut to the quick. That's nasty stuff!
The end of year holidays are upon us and it's great to see an old favorite coming back to the area for the winter break. Slamdunk to the Beach is back for what was always a great high school basketball tournament program. It's an event that I really enjoyed when I was in high school. One of my favorite memories was seeing Lebron James play. I hope we get to see some great competition in this year's renewed event and that there will be some kid out of nowhere that we will be able to talk about 10 years from now.
