I was shocked when I learned DNREC is reviewing a proposal from a local restaurant chain that could permit a restaurant to be built on the oceanfront in Cape Henlopen State Park.
There is no lack of restaurants already in the area, for which we are all lucky. The park does not need more visitors. On any remotely nice day, the line to enter the park is long and cars are often turned away. A restaurant drawing patrons would take parking spaces away from people who want to enjoy the natural beauty of the park. I ride my bike there, but see the lines at the gate. Visiting relatives have been turned away more than once.
Cape Henlopen State Park is a jewel that needs no additional adornment.
