Online purchase contest supports local businesses

April 17, 2020

Two local businesses have banded together for a new initiative to help neighbors and friends who own community businesses that are being severely affected by COVID-19.

Karen Kampmann, creator of I Love Bethany Beach and owner of Dragonfly Social Marketing, recently reached out to Lili Oller, founder of Water Lili, with shops in both Bethany Beach and Ocean View.

Through brainstorming, they decided to form Community Over COVID Revolution, a contest that will run for the duration of the stay-at-home directive. Once everyone is fully operational again, there will be a live drawing.

“I literally got chills because I had just been telling my son that there had to be more that I could do to help my fellow business owners, and that’s when I checked my phone and saw Karen’s message. Boom,” said Oller.

Folks can make online purchases for gift cards and/or products from participating businesses. Every $25 spent is an entry into the drawing for the grand prize which will include gift certificates from all participating businesses. Other ways to enter include various types of social media shares promoting the businesses and their products and ordering curbside pickup or delivery from participating restaurants. All businesses are featured on I Love Bethany Beach’s website, in the weekly newsletter, and on Instagram and Facebook at no cost to the business other than their gift certificate donations to the grand prize.

“It’s a win-win, generating income and awareness for all involved. Folks can shop in their PJs while sipping their favorite beverage, all while generously helping our community when we need it most,” said Kampmann.

Plans for a custom T-shirt are under way and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit locals in need and first responders.

Also in the works is an online store to help local artisans sell their wares. Purchases from the store give shoppers extra entries into the grand prize drawing.

Businesses that have already signed up include 3BB Café/Three Blonde Bakers, Addy Sea Bed & Breakfast, Beach Barre Body, Bethany Beach Beverage Company, Bethany Diner, Bethany Massage & Healing Arts, Burning Both Ends, Comics & Gaming Bethany Beach, Custom Fit 360, DiFebo’s Bethany Beach, Drifting Grounds Coffee House, Eastern Shore Make-Up, Heather’s Home Works, Kristina’s Kitchen, Magnolia Rifle Boutique, Ocean Vayu Yoga, Personal Peaces, Salted Vines Vineyard & Winery, Studio 26 Salon & Spa, Shine by the Sea Salon, Shore Thing Property Services, Summer Salts Beach Grill, That Guy With A Broom, Turtle Beach Café and the UPS Store.
