Lewes Patrolman First Class Casey Crapps is the 2020 recipient of the Elaine Bisbee Award.
The award is handed out each year to a city employee who displays dedication, dependability, reliability and excellent work habits, and who is team-oriented and committed to providing quality service.
Crapps has been a member of the department for three years.
“During his time here, he has continually demonstrated both professional and positive work skills through his interactions with both the public and his fellow officers,” said Mayor Ted Becker. “He has demonstrated his commitment to the success of the LPD and the Lewes community at large.”
Police Chief Tom Spell nominated Crapps for the award because he consistently displays high morale and approaches every task with a teamwork mind-set.
“In daily encounters with our citizens, Casey is pleasant, likable and projects a confident but calming demeanor,” Spell said. “Although very task-oriented and focused on completing the police-related assignment, Casey does this in a style that is appropriate and appreciated within the Lewes community. He is truly professional, respectful and treats every citizen encounter with a fair and open mind-set. Chief among his best qualities is the community-oriented policing style he employs daily, which makes him an ideal candidate for the Bisbee Service Award.”
The award's namesake, Elaine Bisbee, worked with city of Lewes for 35 years, working her way from secretary to city manager, a position she held for 22 years before retiring in March 2006.
