January 15, 2026

Phillip Leroy Hodgson, 76, a kind man with a good heart, passed away at his home in Georgetown Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026. Born Nov. 8, 1949, in Wilmington, Phillip lived a life filled with warmth and compassion.

Phillip will be remembered for the joy he brought to those around him. He had a unique way of brightening a room with his gentle spirit, reflecting a life led by kindness. An independent soul, he made his own coffee each morning, relishing the simple pleasures of daily life.

Among his interests, Phillip found immense joy in watching Western movies. He cherished the companionship of his pet bird, PrettyBoy the Cockatiel. His trusty tricycle, affectionately named "his Cadillac," provided him with a sense of freedom and nostalgia as he rode everywhere he could.

Phillip was a beloved brother, leaving behind siblings, Charles D. Hodgson Jr., Nancy Parker, Peg Durnan and Frederick Hodgson, who will carry his memory in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles D. Hodgson Sr.; and mother, Sarah F. (Veazey) Hodgson; and his siblings, Sarah Matarese, Patricia Simmons, Jeannie Malice, Thomas Hodgson and Michael Hodgson. He will be missed by many extended family members and by his good friend and caretaker, Tynell Tingle, who was there for Phillip for 15 years.

The legacy of Phillip will endure through the lives he touched and the love he shared. He will be missed dearly by family and friends as they honor his life.

A time to celebrate the life of Phillip will be held at a later date.
