Phyllis M. Green, lived life to the fullest
Phyllis M. (Bowers) Green, 88, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, after a short illness. She was fondly known to family and friends as "Mustang Mama," because of her beloved red convertible Mustang that she proudly drove.
Phyllis grew up in Arden and had many wonderful memories there she loved to reminisce about. She attended the Little Arden School from grades first through sixth, Christ Our King Class of 1950, and graduated from P.S. DuPont High School Class of 1954. She received her secretarial certificate from Goldey-Beacom College and worked for DuPont-Louvier's and Stanton School District as a private secretary until 1976.
Phyllis and Buddy moved from Arden to raise their family in Glenville, Stanton, where they lived until 1998. They had a house built in Millsboro when he retired from DuPont.
She deeply loved her family, her cats, the beach, hiking with her husband, and lived life to the fullest, from doing her daily crossword puzzles, to traveling...Phyllis even parasailed in Cabo San Lucas at the young age of 78. She had been a member of Indian River Yacht Club since 1999 and enjoyed being with her friends while teaching water aerobics at the club.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Francis (Buddy) T. Green Jr.; her son, Dennis Green; her son-in-law, Gary Webb; her mother, Catherine (Smith) Bowers; her father, Raymond B. Bowers; stepmother, Hertha Bowers; brother, Pete Bowers; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Bowers.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Webb and Donna (Pete) Penna; her granddaughter, Jessica (Matt) Buckingham; and her beloved great-grandson, Jace Buckingham. She is also survived by her half-sister, Cora Busch. Phyllis loved her extended Green and Bowers family, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At her request, burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, bvspca.org.
