Plant and bake sale set May 25 at Villages of Five Points

May 22, 2024

Volunteers from the Butterfly Club of the Villages of Five Points will hold a garden bazaar and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, May 25, in the parking lot by the VOFP children’s playground near the corner of Old Orchard Road and W. Edgemoor Road, Lewes. The severe weather date is Sunday, May 26.

Items available for purchase will include flowering plants that attract butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators, along with homemade baked goods such as cookies, brownies, and small breads and cakes. Purchases can be made with cash or credit card.

Pollinator-friendly plants available will include milkweed for the endangered monarch butterfly, as well as zinnias, cosmos, lantana, asters, coreopsis, coneflowers and fuchsia. Some houseplants, ferns and hanging baskets will also be available. New this year will be “buckets of doom,” an organic, environmentally friendly mosquito-control method.

The sale will also include handmade aprons, dresser trays, bowl cozies, bookmarks and tea towels (many embroidered with designs or funny sayings), as well as gently used gardening books, tools, pots and garden décor.

Proceeds from the sale benefit the Villages of Five Points Butterfly Club, which establishes and maintains milkweed and other plants that support butterflies.
