Plein Air Coastal Delaware set May 7-11 in Cape Region

Inaugural event to feature 61 finalists; benefits Children's Beach House

Three jurors have rated the work of hopeful artists for an upcoming show and sale at the Children’s Beach House in Lewes.  Renown art consultant Jean Athan, Sharon Ewing of Gross McCleaf Gallery, and Todd Peenstra of Peenstra Appraisals, have selected 61 finalists for Plein Air Coastal Delaware.

Artists will migrate from town to town, Monday through Thursday, May 7-11, capturing the beauty of the Delaware Coast and competing for $11,000 in cash and prizes. Judging by Fred Comegys and Clifford P. Diver will take place Friday, May 11, after which all artwork and a winners’ circle will be on display at the Children’s Beach House.

Finalists for the competition include the following: Annette Alessi, Linda Bse, Richard Bazelow, Jacalyn Beam, Rosemary Connelly, Jan. Crooker, Ann Crostic, Doreen Currie, Anne Cyr, Maria DeForrest, Thomas Dempsey, David Diaz, Jean Doran, Rose W. Doster, Kevin Fleming, Tara Funk Grim, Gerilyn Gaskill, Leon Graff, John Greim, Anne Griffith-McNally, Christine Heyse, Doris Ingram, Monique Kendikian-Sarkessian, Philip Lang, Monique Lazard, Robert Lott, Ron MacArthur, Arelene Matzkin, Deborah McClure, Lynn Mehta, Justin Nixon, Tess Olson, Anita Peghini-Raber, Linda Peterson Singleton, Rick Phillips, Damon Pla, Dianna Poindexter, Gail Powell, Pratima Rao, James Rehak, Terrence Roberts, Steve Rogers, Mary Rinderle Smith, Keith Steck, Peter Stolvoort, Michael Traines, Ellis Underkoffler, Nancy Carol Willis, Heather Wills, Cheryl Wisbrock, Dennis Young and Libby Zando.

At 6 p.m., the doors open for a Patron Preview Reception, where tickets will be available for $200. At 7 p.m., general tickets will be on sale for $100.

The artwork will remain on display for show and sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, May 12.  Admission is free on Saturday.

Proceeds benefit Children’s Beach House, Food Bank of Delaware, and Rehoboth Art League, whose missions help children and families statewide.  “I am proud of an effective collaboration with Rehoboth Art League and the Food Bank of Delaware,” said Rich Garrett, executive director of Children’s Beach House. “Plein Air Coastal Delaware celebrates our state, its talented artists, and the generous people who share their time, talent and treasure in support of needy children.”
