RBFS to offer Read a Movie club at Rehoboth library
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Rehoboth Beach Public Library invite film enthusiasts to join the latest twist on the book club idea. Each month, Read a Movie club members will read a little-known short story that provided the basis for a very well-known film.
Then, on the second Wednesday of every month, the club will meet at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library to screen the film and share thoughts about how well - or not so well - the story was expanded to the big screen.
The first meeting of Read a Movie will take place from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12. Members need to read, in advance, the short story “It Had to be Murder” by Cornell Woolrich. The classic thriller "Rear Window" (1954), directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Grace Kelly, will be screened and discussed in comparison to the story.
For more information and to sign up for the club, email Greg Jones at outreach@rehobothfilm.com or call the Rehoboth Beach Public Library at 302-227-8044. Membership is free. The first 10 members to sign up will be entered in a raffle to win a classic book/movie combo pack.
Future short story/movie combinations coming later in the fall include Daphne du Maurier’s ghostly “Don’t Look Now” and the notorious film version starring Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland; the delicious “Babette’s Feast,” based on the classic story by Isak Dinesen; and the holiday perennial "It’s a Wonderful Life," accompanied by its original story inspiration, “The Greatest Gift” by Philip Van Doren Stern.
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is funded, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
