Register by Oct. 2 for agroterrorism recovery course in Dover
Proper response is critical in any emergency. An agroterrorism event is unique in that certain precautions need to be taken to ensure proper collection of forensic data for the investigative process. Rural first responders and other community stakeholders in the Dover area will be able to learn more about implementing a recovery plan after an agroterrorism event at a free Department of Homeland Security-certified course delivered by the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium. Agroterrorism is defined as the use of biological agents as weapons against agricultural and food-supply industries.
This six-hour, awareness-level course will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Delaware Fire School, 1461 Chestnut Grove Road. Traditional emergency responders and members of the agriculture community will learn about recovery operations, procedures, and techniques following an incident of agroterrorism or food systems disaster. This course defines recovery and identifies the community stakeholders who must participate in the recovery and the activities involved in restoring public confidence and a sense of normalcy.
It provides specific steps for planning for recovery, both within participants' own organizations and as stakeholders in the larger community-wide incident command system. This course also helps enable participants to complete the overall curriculum and become members of frontline emergency response teams.
This course includes minimizing the economic impact to the community and identification of resources and assets available for building partnerships. It covers critical factors for success in a recovery effort and applies them in a hypothetical crisis.
Registration is required by 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2, by contacting John Morris at john.morris@state.de.us or 302-242-8500. For more information, contact the RDPC help desk at info@ruraltraining.org or call 877-855-7372 or go to www.ruraltraining.org.
