Bad Hair Day? owner Lewis Drexel Davison celebrated 30 years of business June 4 with The Pearl Party.

Hundreds of Davison’s friends, clients and former colleagues stopped in during the four-hour open house. The all-white, two-story salon on Lake Avenue was decorated in pearl-looking balloons; guests and employees wore pearl-related items; drink bottles and food offerings had either a Bad Hair Day? logo or were pearl shaped.

The night of the party, in between greeting guests, Davison was at a loss for words.

“I’ve been doing a lot of walking around town recently. The other night I stopped in front of my old location, and I got a bit emotional. I don’t know how to feel. It’s all a bit surreal,” he said.

The following day, he provided some insight into three decades of business. He said he never really thought about the long-term plan.

“I took it day by day,” said Davison in an email June 5. “Every day I got up and got to it, got it done, one day at a time, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, three full decades in a row. It’s really only now that I’m beginning to understand and feel the accomplishment of 30 years.”

Davison said he wanted the milestone to be more than just a celebration of 30 years, but a period at the end of three decades of all-in, full-on human doing, and the start of a new phase of his life. He said he truly wants to allow himself to let go, to be guilt-free, and to become more of a human being, than a human doing.

Davison said he made a conscious decision to greet each and every guest who attended the party.

“I wanted to look them in the eye and sincerely thank them for coming, to share with them the gratitude I feel for the love and support from the community these past 30 years. I heard some beautiful things,” said Davison. “I am humbled by this milestone and grateful for the love and support I have received from this community not only at this time, but also for the entire 30 years.”
