Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk 100 years ago

August 29, 2023

This is what the east end of Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth Beach looked like a century ago. This Delaware Public Archives photograph is purportedly from the 1920s, showing the original Belhaven Hotel on the south side of the Avenue. The town was founded in 1873 as the Rehoboth Beach Camp Meeting Association by the Rev. Robert W. Todd. The first boardwalk was laid down that same year. The original Belhaven Hotel dated back to 1898, but was destroyed by the Storm of 1962.
