Rehoboth second-graders write sports-themed stories

May 1, 2026

Rehoboth Elementary School second-grade students recently wrapped up an engaging sports fiction unit that combined creative writing with innovative technology, allowing young learners to explore storytelling in a dynamic and interactive way.

As part of the unit, students developed their own original sports-themed fiction stories, using vivid and specific descriptive language to bring their characters, settings and plots to life. Through their writing, students explored key themes such as teamwork, perseverance and imagination while strengthening their understanding of narrative elements.

To extend learning beyond traditional writing, students collaborated with ChatGPT to design detailed character posters. Each poster featured specific elements such as team names, stadiums, mascots and team cheers, encouraging students to think more deeply about character development, details and story structure.

“This project allowed students to truly take ownership of their stories,” said teacher Brittnee Rohls. “By combining creative writing with technology, they were able to expand their ideas, think more deeply about their characters, and showcase their learning in a fun and meaningful way.”
