Rev. Kevin Ernest English, dedicated preacher

February 20, 2023

Rev. Kevin Ernest English, 72, peacefully went to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, after suffering from a brief illness. Kevin was born in Philipsburg, Pa., to Ernest and Donna Lumadue English.

Kevin graduated from Clearfield Area High School (1968), continuing his education with a master of social work (Salisbury University, 2010), master of pastoral counseling (Loyola University, 1985), master of divinity (Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C., 1979), and bachelor of science, history/secondary education (Lock Haven University, 1973).

Kevin was an authentic and dedicated lover of our Lord Jesus Christ. Serving as a United Methodist elder for over 45 years, Kevin shepherded 12 congregations in Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina and Virginia.  In his later years, in addition to preaching, Kevin supported clients by facilitating individual and family counseling and mental health services.

Kevin’s greatest gifts were love, empathy and fun. His presence in a room was larger than life with infectious laughter. To know Kevin was to know and expect his delightful energy, and his passion for all those he loved and cared for.

Kevin is survived by his wife of 17 years, Susan; son, Joel English; daughter, Melissa English; stepdaughter, Laura Bennett; granddaughters, Savannah Harrington, Madison English and Jamie Mann; and sister, Karen Toluwitzki (Don). Along with his parents, Kevin was preceded in death by his twin sister Kathy Henry; stepson Tate Bennett; and first wife Paige English.

The family extends our sincere gratitude for both the new and lifelong friends, and most recently hospice professionals and neighbors, who supported and helped us through this season.

A Celebration of Kevin’s Life will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21, at The Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lewes, with visitation beginning at noon. Rev. Jim Peper will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, consider donations in memory of Kevin to a favorite food bank or local community charity.
