Richard Norris Derrickson, Sussex County retiree

Richard Norris Derrickson, 62, of Ocean View passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at Harbor Healthcare in Lewes.

Norris was born in Lewes and raised in Ocean View, son of the late Oliver M. Derrickson Sr. and Iona M. (Hickman) Derrickson.  He was a graduate of Indian River High School.

Mr. Derrickson worked for the Sussex County Sewer Treatment Plant Substation in Ocean View for several years before his retirement.  He was a lifetime member of the Millville Volunteer Fire Company and served as their fire police captain for several years.  Norris was also an avid NASCAR fan, with Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Oliver “Duke” Derrickson, Stephen Dean Derrickson and Robert T. Derrickson.  Norris is survived by a grandson, Myron “Tate” Thomas V and several cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, where friends and family may call after noon.  Interment will follow at Millville Cemetery in Millville.
