Roadhouse Bar and Grill reopens for business

Classic Route 66 and drive-in theme a nod to original Midway theater
July 6, 2017

In just a 35-day turnaround, with elbow grease supplied by family and friends, Bryan Derrickson of Lewes reopened Roadhouse Bar & Grill for business last month. “A lot of local people lent a helping hand,” he said.

The old restaurant, which some may still remember from before Old Bay and Delaware Distilling Company, has a new look – no more peanut shells on the floor. Instead, the place is decked out with Route 66 decor such as an authentic Texaco gas pump that can’t be missed. The place even has its own silver screen that shows classic films from the golden age of Hollywood cinema.

The updated theme is in reference to the Midway drive-in theater, started by Bryan’s grandfather, William Derrickson, in the early fifties.

In another homage to family, Grandma Derrickson’s original barbecue recipe has survived to this day and is being served at Roadhouse as Ethel’s Famous Midway Drive-In Barbeque Burgers.

Roadhouse offers daily food and drink specials like $7 burgers on Mondays, half-priced tacos and $5 margaritas on Tuesdays and Snow Crab Leg Night every Wednesday. Happy hour is 3-7 p.m. and applies the entire restaurant. Local bands will play live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

“My wife and I were pretty much in here every day for a month and a half, and the kids were in and out of here with us as well,” Derrickson said. “A lot of local people lent a helping hand.”

After all the hard work, Derrickson said, he just wants to have a nice spot where people can relax and eat.
