I just bicycled on Coastal Highway from my home in Rehoboth to the Indian River Inlet bridge and back because the Rehoboth Marathon was occupying my normal Gordons Pond route. My favorite views on Coastal Highway are the sunsets on Rehoboth Bay and where the beach meets the Atlantic as one travels north on the Indian River Inlet bridge. Although my ride was on a foggy afternoon, I was overwhelmed by the number of discarded paper bags, plastic bags, diapers, empty coffee cups, broken glass, plastic bottles, beer and soda cans, empty boxes and even an old mattress. It’s amazing to me that the many people who utilize Coastal Highway have such little regard for its appearance. The time has come to clean up the mess and to enforce Delaware’s littering laws. Coastal Highway isn’t a depository for your trash. Respect the law and our beautiful coast; discard your trash in the appropriate place.
