A total of 167 saturated Santas ran the 22nd annual Santa Sprint 5K in Dewey Beach July 15. It was hotter than a gingerbread man sleeping in the soft sand.
Tristan Thurneysen, 16, of Herndon, Va., was the overall winner in 17:26, followed by Parker Austin, 20, of Davison, Mich., in 17:59; and masters winner Kyle Brightbill, 48, of Philadelphia in 18:11.
Jenna Louis, 43, of West Chester, Pa., was fourth overall and first female in 19:17. Rochelle Persson, 55, of Colorado Springs, Colo., ran 20:15 to capture the women's masters crown. Biahcd Pizzigati, 12, of Kensington, Md., ran 21:37 for third female overall.
The top 29 runners broke 25 minutes, which is an 8:02 mile pace. The top 78 runners were under a 10-minute mile pace.
