Delaware new home builder Schell Brothers earned the award for Best Green Built Home from the Home Builders Association of Delaware May 5 at the Annual Regal Awards Ceremony. Held in Dover, the awards highlighted the best in sales and marketing in the Delaware building industry.
The Best Green Built Home Award was presented for The Kingfisher model at Breakwater in Lewes. The Kingfisher was designed to provide buyers with a home that is energy efficient without sacrificing style and livability. The estimated annual utility usage for The Kingfisher model is only $2,099, while a similarly sized built-to-code house would be more than $4,000 per year. The Kingfisher is the first residence in Delaware built according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s stringent Indoor Air Plus Program specifications, and it earned the NAHB Green Certified Gold rating. The home also scored a 48 on the HERS scale.
“This is just one example of how we are always looking for ways to make our homes better and more efficient,” said Chris Schell, owner. “We’re ecstatic that our hard work and our innovative building science practices were recognized with this award from the Home Builders Association of Delaware.” In addition to The Kingfisher’s outstanding high-performance features, this unique single-family home was designed to maximize the usable living space while enhancing the transition between indoor and outdoor living.
Individual accomplishments were also recognized at the event. Jamie Hudson received the Sales Director of the Year Award, Larry Gee received the Selections Coordinator of the Year Award and Adam Pettengell was honored with the Rookie Sales Person of the Year Award.
