Scott Blackson offers traditional Thai massage in home or office

January 7, 2015

Scott Blackson, LMT, has added traditional Thai massage to his menu of massage services and is taking it on the road. After graduating and passing his national boards, Blackson became a licensed massage therapist in Delaware. Recently, he decided to continue his education at The Thai Institute of Healing Arts in Arlington, Va., where he completed his work in traditional Thai massage.

Blackson decided the best way to reach the most people was to take Thai massage to them. He offers TTM in any home or office, anywhere in Delaware. “I bring everything from the mat to the music.  You just need to provide a quiet space on the floor about the size of a double bed,” he said.

Thai massage is different from more classical forms of Western massage in that it is a lot more physical and energized. The therapist uses his or her hands and feet to move the client into different yoga-like positions and stretches. A typical massage session is a unique blend of yoga, acupressure, muscle manipulation, and stretches performed by the therapist on the client.

“From the first time I saw Thai massage performed,” said Blackson, “I knew it was something I wanted to do. There was something so beautiful and so connected about the interaction between the client and the practitioner. I knew my reach would be limited if I just took clients at my studio in Milford. But being in the center of the state offered a huge advantage in that I can travel anywhere in Delaware and be there within an hour. So I decided that instead of only offering TTM at my studio, I should go to my clients, wherever they are.”

Traditional Thai massage is usually done on the floor on a padded mat as opposed to a massage table. In this way, the practitioner is able to move about and manipulate the client while sitting, standing and kneeling. No oil is used in this massage, and the client usually wears comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. The massage takes about 90 minutes. It consists of slow, rhythmic compressions, gentle rocking, stretching and thumb presses along the meridians to prepare the client for a deeper massage. Benefits include relaxation, stress reduction, increased energy, improved flexibility, an increased range of motion, and a feeling of being more centered in mind, body and spirit.

“Thai massage is like an intricate dance,” said Blackson. “As a practitioner, I feel I gain as much from the massage as the client does, as my body stretches and moves with the client. It can be quite a workout, but I find it very rewarding.”

Thai Massage in home or office  costs $110 per 90-minute session. For more information or to schedule an appointment, go to www.thaimassagetoyou.com.
