Senior Olympics volleyball digs it at Cape

It was an action-packed day at the Cape gym July 14, as the Senior Volleyball Olympics qualifier had 13 teams playing for the chance to go to Nationals.

The Delaware Senior Olympics national qualifier was held at Cape Henlopen High School July 14. Thirteen teams bumped, spiked and served for a chance to go to the National Senior Olympics Tournament in Albuquerque, N.M.

Team Lokahi took the gold in the 50s competition, while Boomba took silver. Bronze was garnered by Dig Deeper. Md. AU-Golden took gold in the 55s. The 60s competition had Md. AU-Stars winning gold, with Hits Happen taking the silver. DE Quick Chicks won the 60s in the Delaware Division. Volli Hi took gold in the 65s.

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
