So glad that preseason football is over

September 2, 2022
I am extremely happy that preseason football is coming to a close. I understand why they have to have some games to be able to determine who is going to make the team each season. I have to confess I did not watch any of the Eagles preseason games. I’m happy to report that the only significant injury was to Jason Kelce, the center. He has an elbow injury, so he has not played any games yet. I hope he is ready for the first game against Detroit on Sept. 11. The Eagles have three good new players in wide receiver AJ Brown, Haasan Reddick and Jordan Davis (a rookie). There are high expectations for this team this year to make the playoffs. We will see what happens.

The U.S. Open tennis tournament is underway. At 40, Serena Williams is doing a good job prolonging her last hurrah in the tournament. She has played well and made it into the third round. I still don’t believe she can win because she has to play even better for five more matches over two weeks. That is going to be quite difficult even for her. But it has been great to see her playing so well!

On the men’s side, the tournament is seemingly wide open because Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are not playing. Defending champion Daniel Medvedev was not allowed to play at Wimbledon, but he is the No. 1 seed here. For me, tennis is a lot easier to cover after the tournament is over because everything changes so quickly in the day by day. More on this in the next two weeks.

In golf, Rory McElroy won the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup by staging a great comeback win over Scotty Scheffler by one shot with a overall score of 23-under par for the tournament. McElroy started the tournament four-over par over the first two holes and then played great for the rest of the tournament. The East Lake, Ga., course played very easy because of the fact that they had a lot of rain the week before it started, but that's to be expected in golf and keeps it interesting no matter what.

It's so hard to wrap my head around the fact that it's September already. Where did the summer go?! Have a good Labor Day weekend everyone.
