Almost 40 students from St. Thomas More Academy in Magnolia finished exam week by hopping on a bus and traveling to Philadelphia to visit the Franklin Institute’s exhibit on Vatican history.
The exhibit, Vatican Splendors: A Journey Through Faith and Art, features historical and religious collections to provide a window to the Vatican’s role in the world, with objects, artwork and videos depicting 2,000 years of history and tradition. The students participated in a scavenger hunt provided by the Franklin Institute and absorbed a host of historical and religious information as they searched the exhibit.
The student favorites were the Michelangelo and St. John Paul II portions of the exhibit. Ashley Solecki and Tim Freud, religion teachers at STMA accompanied the students. Solecki said, "Many of the students were overwhelmed by both the enormous historical significance and preservation of such important antiquities of the Catholic church. It really brought church history to life."
