Stone Balloon Winehouse at the Lighthouse Jan. 19

Award-winning Newark restaurant to create a dining event in Dewey Beach
January 11, 2012

The Lighthouse Restaurant in Dewey Beach will begin its Winehouse at the Lighthouse dining series at 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 19. Every Thursday this winter, the historic bayfront pub will be transformed into a Dewey version of its sister restaurant, the Stone Balloon Winehouse in Newark.

Host Rich Garrahan and Chef Jason Dietterick hope to bring Lewes, Bethany and Rehoboth-area residents to Dewey Beach by converting the waterfront pub into a warm, cozy and elegant dining space fit for a memorable dinner experience. The menu of contemporary dishes and fine wines at an affordable price will be the only one of its kind available in Dewey this winter.

The Lighthouse staff is excited to take a break from its regular pub-inspired fare, draft beer and big-screen sports television to welcome Dietterick and a different type of dining experience.

“The menu will change weekly, and I plan on bringing a new flair to the Dewey culinary scene,” says Dietterick. “We are going to be serving up amazing flavors, beautifully designed plates and awesome wines, all at an affordable price.” Dietterick will join Lighthouse Chef Joe Godleski to create the menu and prepare the food for Winehouse at the Lighthouse.

“Both of our chefs have received many accolades for their culinary expertise, and recent collaborations between the two sparked the idea to bring them together more frequently,” says Lighthouse and Stone Balloon Winehouse owner Jim Baeurle. “Every day people ask me, ‘When are you going to do a Winehouse at the beach?’ Well, here it is!”

The mood of the room will be set by Lighthouse and Stone Balloon Manager Rich Garrahan, with white linen tablecloths, a cozy fireplace and low lighting. He says, “We want to give local foodies a reason to come to Dewey this winter. Jason and I have created amazing dining experiences together at the Winehouse, and before that at Nage, and we are excited to create a dining destination in Dewey Beach.”

Garrahan is a Court of Master Sommeliers Level One Certificate holder and has been a hospitality manager for more than 10 years. The Stone Balloon Winehouse is an award-winning restaurant and culinary destination on Main Street in Newark. It was recently selected as one of the Top 50 Wine Lists in the country by Open Table.

The Winehouse at the Lighthouse menu will feature eclectic plates ranging in price from $6-$28 and an equally affordable and diverse selection of wines. A sample menu is available online at LighthouseDewey.com. The Lighthouse will serve its regular menu Friday-Sunday all winter.
