Stop, drink and support Lewes Fire Department Oct. 1-2

September 28, 2022

To kick off Fire Prevention Month, the Lewes Fire Department Auxiliary has partnered with local restaurants for the Second Annual Thirst Extinguisher Weekend Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1 and 2. Patrons who order signature drinks from participating restaurants will have a portion of the proceeds donated to the fire department.

Some of these establishments will also be participating in a Thirst Extinguisher Throw Down and will have their fire prevention-themed cocktails judged by Bob Yesbek, curator of RehobothFoodie.com and co-owner of Eating Rehoboth; Dr. Michael Hurd, author of the Life's a Beach newspaper column in the Coast Press and Delaware Wave; and Tiffany Patterson, lead guide for EatingRehoboth.com restaurant tours.

Drinks will be judged on the name’s relevance to the fire prevention theme, presentation, aroma, taste and originality. Last year’s winner, the Beach Time Distilling team, will once again be participating in the hope of retaining the Golden Fire Extinguisher trophy on its bar.

Participating businesses include: Bethany Blues Lewes, $1 for every Smoked Cherry Old Fashioned; The Wheelhouse on Anglers Road, 10% of proceeds from all Tropic Squelch cocktails sold; Grain On The Rocks at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal, specials to be determined; Sydney’s Restaurant and Lounge in Paynter’s Mill, Milton, $2 from every Tipsy Wildfire sold; Matt’s Fish Camp Lewes, 50% of all Touch of Heat tequila cocktails sold; Crust & Craft, 50% of all strawberry crushes sold; Beach Time Distilling, 20% of all sales of Fire Storm sold; and Revelation Craft Brewing Company at Hudson Fields, $1 from each sale of Sparky’s Brew porter to be donated to the fire department.

Since 1796, citizens of Lewes have stepped forward to join the ranks of the city’s volunteer fire service. For 200 years, the association has been filled with men and women wanting to serve others.
