SummerScape series to highlight science, technology, art

July 22, 2025

The Lewes Public Library’s SummerScape 2025 live performance series continues at 7 p.m., Wednesdays, in its new outdoor pavilion at 111 Adams Ave., Lewes.

Discussing the works and legacy of Rodgers and Hammerstein July 30 will be Tina Maria Casamento, a famed Broadway producer, director and performer, and historian Paul Sparrow. Casamento will sing excerpts from the duo’s most beloved songs, accompanied by David Libby on piano.

Dr. Aaron Carlisle, a shark expert from the University of Delaware School of Marine Science and Policy, will present “Tales from the Shark Side” Aug. 6.

Philosophy in the age of artificial intelligence will be the Aug. 13 topic, presented by Dr. Michael Redmond, former president of Bergen Community College, and professor of philosophy and religion.

Curious kids, nature-loving families and anyone interested in exploring and protecting local ecosystems can learn from Lisa Swanger of the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, who will share a fun and interactive presentation Aug. 20 about the habitats and wildlife that make up the Inland Bays.

Rounding out the month Aug. 27, Historic Lewes volunteer Alan Jensen will present “Jack Lewis: Lewes Artist of Renown” in a compelling talk that brings the celebrated visual artist’s work to life.

The series will culminate with a Sept. 10 performance from First State Ballet, followed by weekend shows from renowned actors Suzanne Savoy and Gerald Dickens Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13 and 14.

Seating will be provided under the covered pavilion for those who register in advance. Guests are also welcome to bring their own chairs or blankets to the lawn surrounding the pavilion, which does not require registration. Should events move indoors due to inclement weather, only those who have preregistered can be accommodated. All events are free.
