Sussex Academy receives grant from Verizon for STEM program
The Verizon Foundation has awarded Sussex Academy a $13,000 grant to be applied toward Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education. Realizing the importance of future STEM jobs, Verizon is passionate about involving students in STEM programs.
“All Sussex Academy ninth-grade students are enrolled in the STEM program. With this grant, Verizon is providing exposure of STEM opportunities and careers to a large number of diverse students. Students that are educated and fluent in STEM will help create stable future for our society,” said Timothy Elmer, Sussex Academy STEM educator.
“The Verizon grant is providing the STEM classroom with computers capable of high-end graphic processing that will allow students to learn the latest 3D modeling software program used in the workplace. Students will be able to model their design solutions, perform analysis and generate detailed drawings to support the building of prototypes. The models can then be fabricated on the classroom 3D printers to allow students to test and evaluate their designs. The technical skills learned on the computer will help provide students with real-life problem-solving experiences using mathematics and science to engineer a solution. Sussex Academy truly appreciates Verizon providing us with the funds to offer our students this type of education," said Elmer.
