Sussex County Habitat for Humanity held a groundbreaking and blessing ceremony marking the beginning of the homebuilding process for nine families in Milford.
These families are part of Sussex Habitat’s newest large-scale construction initiative, the Milford homeownership project.
Marking Sussex Habitat’s first major homeownership effort in the city of Milford, the development will ultimately provide each partner family with access to affordable, permanent housing at the completion of the project.
Similar in scope and vision to the organization’s previous revitalizations in Georgetown and Laurel, this work is part of a broader effort to strengthen communities through construction of affordable homes.
Sussex County Habitat CEO Kevin Gilmore addressed attendees during the ceremonies, highlighting the importance of long-term housing solutions in Sussex County. “This project represents an investment in Milford’s future and in the families who will live, work and contribute to this community for years to come,” Gilmore said.
Gov. Matt Meyer was in attendance showing his support for affordable housing initiatives, along with Habitat staff, volunteers and supporters. The event underscored the organization’s ongoing commitment to providing stable homeownership opportunities throughout the county.
To date, Sussex County Habitat has built nearly 200 homes and provided free financial coaching to thousands of Sussex County residents, helping them reduce debt, grow savings and, in many cases, take meaningful steps toward homeownership, whether through Habitat or on their own. Habitat’s Milford homeownership project builds on that legacy, providing a critical path forward for families in need of safe, secure housing.
