Sussex Tech announces teacher of the year

The Sussex County Vocational Technical District in Georgetown recently announce English teacher Stephanie Pegelow, an 11-year teaching veteran, has been named its 2022 Teacher of the Year.

“Mrs. Pegelow has the admiration of her students and the respect of her fellow teachers,” said SuperintendentKevin Carson. “She is a dynamic educator whose dedication to the school community is unmatched. She is an excellent representative as our Teacher of the Year.”

Pegelow began her career in business as an account executive for an online payment system firm. In 2010, seeking to make a greater difference, she transitioned into education, working as a business educator with the Indian River School District at Sussex Central High School. Pegelow also worked as a special education and English teacher at Central Middle School in the Capital School District before joining the Sussex Tech family as a special education and English teacher in 2013. The 2022 honoree holds two master’s degrees, one in school leadership and one in education, both from Wilmington University, preceded by a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Delaware.

Pegelow, upon learning of her selection, said she will use her Teacher of the Year platform to promote overall mental and emotional wellness through a variety of leadership and mentor programs. It is her hope to serve as a mentor leader for her students as well as fostering relationships between her students and the community.

Pegelow is married to Nick Pegelow, also an instructor at Sussex Technical High School, and they have a young son named Brody.

Sussex Technical High School began its operations in 1961. As a component of the Sussex County Vocational Technical School District, it has more than 1,300 students enrolled in 17 vocational programs of work.
