Tappan-Horn family history in Rehoboth is focus of Jan. 12 talk

January 8, 2023

The next Rehoboth Beach History Lecture, set for 7:15 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, will focus on the love story of Nettie Tappan and Bill Horn. The talk will kick off the celebration of Rehoboth’s 150th anniversary.

The Tappans and the Horns were prominent working families in Rehoboth Beach who helped shape the character of the town from the mid-1890s well into the 20th century. Nettie and Bill met while she was working at the Horn's Pavilion ice cream parlor, and their story spans more than 60 years. Descendants of both families still live in the Mid-Atlantic area today.

The lecture series, led by local historian Paul Lovett, takes place in the Sussex Room at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel on Olive Avenue in Rehoboth Beach. Contact Lovett at paul@pdlovett.com or call 302-893-9391 to reserve a seat. A donation of $25 is requested. Proceeds in excess of expenses support Lovett’s miniature village diorama of 1910 Railroad Era Rehoboth; see details at goldenageofrehoboth.com.
