Ted Becker is a strong mayor

May 13, 2022

I am voting to re-elect Ted Becker because he has brought significant progress to Lewes as a strong mayor. When Ted runs a meeting, it is organized and based on a well-conceived agenda. He is formal and yet also considerate of everyone present. Ted may stick to his initial intent, change his mind, compromise if necessary, but then he will cast his vote as is his duty. He makes his decision. I cannot remember Ted abstaining from voting on an issue. Meetings under Ted’s leadership are civil, organized and don’t waste anyone’s time.

Lewes is currently in the process of change and does not need more change at the top. The four new Lewes councilpersons are intelligent, caring people who are still learning. Ted knows his co-workers and works diligently with members of city council, the city manager and staff, members of the many Lewes commissions and committees, and the city attorneys to govern effectively.

Lewes has a tradition of electing strong mayors – Otis Smith, Al Stango, Jim Ford and Ted Becker, to name a few. These mayors had the courage and commitment to push meaningful changes forward, and they served the City of Lewes well. Lewes is organized around a strong-mayor setting as described by Indeed.com.

“The powers afforded to a mayor vary based on the structure of the local government. A mayor may be in a strong-mayor setting, where they have many administrative and legislative responsibilities, or a weak-mayor structure, in which the mayor is on a similar level to other members of the town council.”

I will vote to re-elect Ted Becker to continue serving as a strong mayor in Lewes.
