Third Thursday to celebrate Milford’s 231st birthday Sept. 20

September 18, 2018

Downtown Milford Inc. will host the City of Milford’s 231st Birthday Celebration at its monthly Third Thursday event, from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20.

Downtown Milford businesses will be open with extended hours, and shoppers, visitors and attendees are encouraged to wear maroon and gold, Milford’s hometown colors. In the farmers market area, Milford High School students will be selling maroon and gold school district swag from 5 to 7 p.m. (cash or check only) for those who want to join in. These colors will dot the downtown and Riverwalk area to create a picture-perfect town photo at 7:15 p.m.  The photo will be taken by drone along the Riverwalk between Washington Street and the Santa House.

In addition to the town photo at 7:15 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to light and hold a candle and sing “Happy Birthday,” followed by a ceremonial cake cutting in the farmers market area by Mayor Archie Campbell. Mini cupcakes by Sweet Tia’s Bakery and sponsored by Milford LIVE will be available to the first 200 attendees.

Food trucks onsite will include Rosenfeld's Jewish Deli, Mr. Bar-B-Que, Sea Hogg, GreenMan Juice Bar & Bistro, and Vanderwende Farm Creamery on Walnut Street.

The Milford Museum will be open and unveiling the new 2019 Milford calendar, and Abbott’s Mill Nature Center will be onsite at Lifecycle talking about programs and selling beer to support its trails and programs.

Local businesses will celebrate Milford’s birthday with specials and events during Third Thursday. Splash Design Works will offer 10 percent off its social media package to first-time customers. At Lifecycle, kids can decorate buccaneer swords made from upcycled bike boxes.

Entertainment includes dancers from First State Academy of Dance from 5:30 to 6 p.m., and “Happy Birthday” singing led by Milford High School students.  Plus, the Mispillion Art League will be doing face painting inside the gallery, and the Milford Buccaneer will be walking around town, so be sure to grab a photo with him! Use the hashtag #WeAreMilford for social media postings.

Rain or shine, Third Thursday is a great way to discover Milford’s retail shops, restaurants, and art galleries. Bring the family, meet friends and neighbors, and make new friends while enjoying the fun of exploring Downtown Milford.
